Tech Edge: Mobile Learning in the Classrom Podcast
Review for assignment:
In all the videos I found new content that I could relate to and that I thought kids would enjoy. I sifted through a few of them but these three are the ones I enjoyed the most and thought I could really bring to the the classroom. I like how the University of Nebraska created these videos and tutorials of new apps. It was done in a very professional manor and I think the girl and guy felt very comfrotable being in front of the camera. They seemed well rehearsed and familiar with the technology they presented. It's great that they have made so many videos so there is a big selection for people needing help with multiple things. The youtube page is a great resource for teachers and people interested in new apps.

Play Doh Touch is a fun interactive game targeted towards kids of younger ages. The app is free and compatible with apple products. The one thing I enjoy a lot about this game is that the characters are created by you yourself with actual play doh. Once you have created the creature you upload it to the game by camera and start expanding your virtual universe. This teaches kids the importance of lighting. At first this game is totally you create it but as you go on the game will begin asking you to make certain designs, I like this because it is actually trying to teach the kids clay modeling skills. There is a feature where you can go to other worlds but this requires additional purchases but I believe they are worth the cost if the kids are super into it. I think in a life bombarded by technology this is a nice mix of media, it interests the gamers and the artistically inclined to get involved. I think this could be useful for days when a sub is in the classroom with no lesson prepared. The only questionable thing about this app is dirty fingers with expensive technology, if handled correctly I think the kids would eat this up!
I think Google's app "Arts and Culture" is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. I believe being an Artist is about community, to build from others ideas and even helping to expand knowledge. Art is heavily influenced by the culture one was raised in so when looking at foreign cultures what better way to understand then by looking at their artwork and creations. The fact that this app is free is wonderful, not only do we omit the admission fee into the museum but we also don't have to travel to the destination! I think this is a great tool for the fact that it can show students what's out there without actually going. They update regularly so you can always see new exhibits going into the museum. This app can be used in so many ways during a lesson, perhaps just focusing on the history, if needing some inspiration from other cultures, or even just giving them a day to look around and explore. The app it self is a highly detailed map but it also includes other features such as historical moments where you can learn more in depth stories behind the pieces, art projects done by other artist viewed in great detail, and exploration of multiple institutes. You can also save your favorite findings. There are some museums that have their own websites and apps but I think the way google designed this program is exquisite because you aren't stuck to one place, there's so much information that it would take months to go through and by the time you finished there would be new things. I think this app would mostly benefit middle school and up students. Compatible with apple products but there is also a website so the app download isn't always necessary. You can also change the language so it can cater to multiple student backgrounds.
This video was not about an app but a free website called vidcode.io. You will need an up to date version of Java Script. I found the site to be really interactive and helpful, when you go to the website you create your own account using google or email. There is tuorial videos and helpful instructions on how to begin. The site was very easy to navigate and so many options on creating. I think this could easily be a lesson you teach to the kids, show them where everything is while having them navigate through the site. Once the kids begin to memorize (although not necessary there is help if needed) they are free to make your own gifs or short movies. For lesson specific have them create a certain amount or make it more specific to a topic. I think these would really interest the kids because it's on a computer and gets them to think creatively. I would use this at a high school level.
